[i] This transport was probably re-directed from Bełżec, which was re-building its gas chambers and was unable to deal.
[ii] Jews transported from outside Poland usually arrived at the ‘holding ghettos’ at Izbica, Piaski, Chełm, Włodawa and Krasnystaw. As the backlog of Jews were cleared in Bełżec or Sobibór, Jews from these transit ghettos were transported to whichever death camp was free to receive them. Either the camp or ghetto administrators of incoming transports kept no records, or where Jews from these ‘holding ghettos’ were destined.
[iii] Exact numbers are shown here which reflects the efficiency of the Nazi resettlement machine in Western Europe. No such care was taken in Galicia.

[v] These were the remaining work Jews from Bełżec, which was now shut down. Only one Jew survived, ‘Chaim Herszman, who broke out of the transport before it reached Sobibór. All the others were shot on arrival.

[vii] After Bełżec closed in December 1942, it is estimated that over 25,000 Jew from Lwow (Janowska Camp) and Stryj ghetto were sent to Sobibór and murdered. The German armaments factories employed these Jews.
[viii] After the Sobibór revolt, these 100 Jews were brought from Treblinka to dismantle the camp. After they had completed this all were shot. See Blatt, 33.
